Crucial Ships C300 355MB/s SSD Drive

Crucial announced the immediate availability of its Crucial RealSSD C300 solid state 2.5-inch drive on Thursday. The drive supports read speeds up to 355MB/s, and is available in 128GB and 256GB capacities.

The drive supports SATA 6Gb/s and SATA 3Gb/s interfaces, uses high-speed synchronous MLC NAND, includes no moving parts, and fits standard laptop hard drive spaces.

The Crucial RealSSD C300 is priced at US$499.99 for the 128GB model, and $799.99 for the 256GB model.

You bet I want it, but I’ll have to give these at least a year or two for prices to become more reasonable. Early adopters, knock yourselves out and enjoy.

I just got a 500Gb HDD for my Macbook. List price $89. I really like the idea of SDD but the price has to fall a LONG ways. OTOH LCDs became inexpensive in just a few years. Hard drives grew from tiny to many Gb in half a decade. I’ll wait until 2015 or so. They’ll be much more reasonable by then.
