Developer Reports: iOS 5.0.1 Beta Fixes iPhone Battery Life Issues

Following up on Apple’s release of iOS 5.0.1 Beta to developers Wednesday, many reports are beginning to surface from developers claiming that the much maligned iPhone 4S and iOS 5 battery issues have been addressed by the update, which is still in limited release to developers only.

iOS 5.0.1 Beta

Twitter is replete this morning with reports from users claiming that the beta release of iOS 5.0.1 has noticeably improved battery life on their iOS devices. As Gear Live’s Andru Edwards reported via Twitter, “iOS 5.0.1 definitely fixes the battery issue!”

The forums and comments on tech websites also contain positive news regarding the update. TMO reader UpQuark has reported improved battery life on the iPhone 3GS, lending weight to the theory that the battery issue was a larger part software, with iOS 5, than hardware, with the iPhone 4S.

The Apple Support Communities are also littered with reports of 5.0.1 improving the situation, although the majority of users there are not developers and therefore do not have access to the beta update.

Apple has yet to issue a specific release date for 5.0.1’s general availability. Beta updates historically go through several revisions before release.
