Facebook announced on Monday the release of the company’s long-awaited, much anticipated, and frequently contemplated app for Apple’s iPad. The company released version 4.0 of its iOS Facebook app as a hybrid app for both iPhone and iPad, bringing users an iPad-optimized interface for the first time.
Facebook for iPad
Much ado has been made on the absence of this app. While Facebook was quick to market with an iPhone app, the company all but ignored the iPad, a device much more suited to consuming content and lazily browsing status updates than the iPhone. Rumors of an iPad app have been in circulation for months, along with varied and sundry reasons for why it hadn’t been released.
Be that as it may, it’s here now. In addition to bringing an iPad-optimized interface, the company said it brings its vaunted (and valuable) fleet of iPad apps (i.e. games) that users can play in full screen mode on their iPad. Users can also view photos and videos in full screen mode and swipe back and forth to view new ones. Members will also be able to chat with their friends from within the app.
Facebook for iPad is free, and as noted above, it’s a hybrid app for both iPhone and iPad. That means if you already have the iPhone app installed on your iPad, all you need to do is update it to get the new iPad interface. It’s a free download, and version 4.0 is available on the App Store now.
