Fire Up Your Downloads: OS X Mavericks is Available

| News

As promised, OS X Mavericks is now available as a free download from Apple's Mac App Store. The new version of the Mac operating system was shown off earlier this year at Apple's annual World Wide Developer Conference, and on CEO Tim Cook said it would be available today and that the US$19.99 price tag was a thing of the past.

OS X Mavericks is the latest version of the Mac operating system and includes several new features such as iBooks support, improved full screen app support, desktop spanning support for AirPlay through Apple TV, better overall performance and battery life, file and folder tagging, iCloud Keychain syncing, Maps, and more.

The operating system is available only as a download. OS X Mountain Lion users will see Mavericks as a free update through Software Update, or it's available through the Mac App Store.

Considering the anticipation for Mavericks, don't be surprised if the download process takes longer than expected because so many people are already trying to get their hands on the new software.

They are one and the same. Software Update is simply a shortcut to the same location.
