The typically scant update notes state, "This update addresses HDMI video flicker issues on Mac mini (Late 2012) computers and is recommended for all users."

Like other firmware updates, the process can take several minutes to complete and leaves users with a gray screen until the update is finished installing.

Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.7 is available through Software Update on compatible Mac mini models, or as a downloadable installer at the Apple Support website.
