Flickering Targeted in Mini DisplayPort Update

· by · News

Apple released the Mini DisplayPort to VGA firmware update late on Tuesday for all Macs with a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. The update addressed issues with intermittent flickering along with compatibility problems with some external displays.

The updater installs the new firmware on the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, so users must connect the adapter to their computer and a compatible VGA display before starting the installation process.

The Mini DisplayPort to VGA firmware update is free and available for download at the Apple Support Web site.

This is the adaptor

How can “The updater installs the new firmware on the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter,” when it’s just a cable? Or is there more to it than two plugs and 5 inches of multistrand. $29 ($34 here in Canada) does seem like a lot for a simple adaptor.

For that matter, does anyone other than Apple make this cable? I’d really like to get one from Belkin or someone for less.
