Linotype announced the immediate availability of FontExplorer X Pro 3.0 for Mac OS X on Wednesday. The new version of the font management application added font auto-activation support for the upcoming release of QuarkXPress 9.

Version 3.0 also added a new Character Toolbox that filters fonts for specific characters, can compare fonts based on paper and ink usage so designers can build more environmentally friendly documents, offers a transparent overlay mode to preview fonts in layouts, added a new “ad-hoc groups” feature for easier font organization, and more.
FontExplorer X Pro 3.0 is priced at US$79, and upgrades from earlier versions cost $29. The application is available for download at the FontExplorer Web site.
