“At first many doubted, but it will be the first time that the company will produce iPads outside Chinese territory,” Mr. Mercandante said. “We are taking a big step for digital inclusion in the country.”

Mr. Mercandante made the announcement during a hearing with the Brazil’s Commission of Economic Affairs on Tuesday, according to UOL. The factory opening is Foxconn’s first outside of China, and could bring a boost to Brazil’s economy.

The plant is expected to ramp up to full production within four years.

I hope he is telling the truth!!
I’m from Brazil and i’m just tired of paying U$ 1,000.00 for an iPad. I think they should do the same for the iMac because it’s unacceptable to pay something around U$ 4,600.00 for an iMac 27” (starting at).
Ps: great work guys. I read macobserver every single day!!

So, will that be iPad 2s coming out of that brand new factory in Brazil in December? Or ... iPad 3s ?

Think about it: Does it make sense to build a new production line in a newly built factory for an eight month old product which is rumored to be replaced by its successor in early 2012, just a couple months later?

It makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

Hooray! If this be true, might not Apple make the leap and do the same at home? Brazil is doing very well and has great prospects for future economic growth.

Julio, crazy that you get pinched so hard on any Apple product. What about a Dell computer and how does Dell pricing compare to its factor in the US? Maybe the iPad plant is indication that pricing will be coming down across our favourite fruit’s toys.

Why is the photo showing VW’s Wolfsburg factory then?

Has anyone told Tim Cook that Foxconn makes Android tablets yet?

Can’t wait to see Apple’s reaction to the new tablets that will come out of that brand new plant that aren’t branded with the Apple Logo.

Mhikl, i think something around U$ 1,000.00 But if you want to make sure just visit www.dell.com.br a see any specific model. All you got to do is multiply the price in Reais by 1.7. You guys can get rich selling US stuff in Brazil.

Thanks Julio, Brazil’s on my watch list, as is most of SA. That continent is looking good marching into the future. Had a friend who had both a Brazilian and Canadian parent and he turned us on to avocado milkshakes and life was made better.
