Foxconn’s Brazil iPad Factory Swings into Action

Foxconn’s new plant in Brazil fired up its assembly lines recently, and according to the country’s Minister of Science and Technology, Aolizio Mercandante, is already making iPads set to ship in December.

“At first many doubted, but it will be the first time that the company will produce iPads outside Chinese territory,” Mr. Mercandante said. “We are taking a big step for digital inclusion in the country.”

Mr. Mercandante made the announcement during a hearing with the Brazil’s Commission of Economic Affairs on Tuesday, according to UOL. The factory opening is Foxconn’s first outside of China, and could bring a boost to Brazil’s economy.

The plant is expected to ramp up to full production within four years.
