Google tossed its hat into the URL shortening service ring with the introduction of its new goo.gl domain. According to the Internet search giant, the URL shortener will offer stability, security and speed improvements compared to similar online services.
Other URL shortening services, such as bit.ly, Ow.ly and Tiny URL are already available, but Google apparently thinks it has something new to bring to the table.
Google's URL shortening Web page states "Google URL Shortener at goo.gl is a service that takes long URLs and squeezes them into fewer characters to make a link that is easier to share, tweet, or email to friends."
The URL shortening service is currently limited to Google's own products.
