Google Offers Up Free Wi-Fi for the Holidays

· by · News

Holiday season travelers are getting an early treat thanks to Google's move to offer free airport Wi-Fi. Google is offering free Wi-Fi in 47 U.S. airports from November 10 through January 15, and the Burbank and Seattle airpots will get free Wi-Fi indefinitely.

The airports on Google's list include Las Vegas, San Jose, Boston, Baltimore, Burbank, Houston, Indianapolis, Seattle, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, St. Louis, Charlotte and more.

Users that take advantage of the free airport Wi-Fi will be presented with an option to make a donation to Engineers Without Borders. Google will match the donations up to US$250,000, and the airport that generates the highest donation amount per passenger will receive $15,000 to donate to a local nonprofit organization.

The full list of airports is available at Google's Free Holiday Wi-Fi Web site.

That is WAY cool. It is an excellent marketing idea too.  It will actually improve holiday travel, which could use improvement, believe you me.  Congrats to Google for it. (Too bad Apple didn’t think of it.)

Boingo’s gonna LOVE this.  Might even see a law suit because of it.
