Apple announced on Thursday that it will be launching its iAd mobile ad service for iOS devices to the U.K. and France in December, and Germany in January. iAd is Apple’s in-app mobile advertising platform for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
iAd will roll out with advertisements from L’Oréal, Renault, Louis Vuitton, Nespresso, Perrier, Unilever, Citi, Evian, LG Display, AB InBev, Turkish Airlines and Absolute Radio.
“In just four months, we’ve doubled the number of advertisers on the network,” said iAd vice president Andy Miller.
iAd is heading to Europe
Apple announced earlier in November that it is teaming up with Dentsu Group to offer iAd content in Japan. Content for apps in that country should start rolling out in January.
Viewing iAd advertisements in apps requires iOS 4 or higher, which means currently only iPhone and iPod touch users can see them. Once iOS 4.2 ships in the coming days, however, iPad owners can get in on the iAd action, too.
