Indie+Relief Raises $143K for Haiti Earthquake Victims

· by · News

On January 20, Mac and iPhone application developers teamed up to help raise funds through Indie+Relief to help the victims of the earthquake that devastated Haiti on January 12. The companies raised US$143,872 in donations for several organizations that are supporting Haiti relief efforts.

The groups the developers are donating to include Doctors Without Borders, Red Cross, UNICEF, Partners in Health, DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal, Non-Believers Giving Aid, Save the Children, CECI, AmeriCares, Oxfam, and more.

Haiti was struck by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake on January 12, causing extensive damage around the Port-au-Prince area. To date, over 70,000 victim's bodies have been recovered and estimates for the death toll are around 200,000.

Just because the one-day fund raising event is over doesn't mean the need for additional relief money is over, so the Indie+Relief Web site is still pointing people to Doctors Without Borders, Red Cross and UNICEF for donations.
