iOS 7: How to Turn Off Automatic App Updates

The introduction of automatic app updates in iOS 7 is terrific. But there may be times when you don't want that to happen. Here's an explanation of when you might want to turn it off and how to do it.

________________________

In iOS 7:

  1. Tap on Settings.
  2. Tap on iTunes & App Store.
  3. Select "Updates" ON or OFF.

When Automatic App Updates is off, you'll be able to manage your app updates, just as before, in the App Store app and its tab on the bottom right: "Updates."

Why Turn Automatic App Updates Off?

From Jeff Gamet's review, "iOS 7: Far More than Another Pretty Face."

For the apps you've already installed, Apple is making it easier to stay up to date with its automatic update feature. You can turn the feature on or off in the iTunes & App Store settings so you can still choose to download updates individually.

Why wouldn't you want to autoupdate all the time, I hear you ask. Let's say you're using an app that you need to keep frozen at a specific version, disabling autoupdates lets you manually update your other apps while leaving the one that [might otherwise] update alone.
