One complaint I heard over and over when iOS 7 shipped was that many of the colors used in apps and icons looked more like they came from cartoons. Apple addressed part of that with iOS 7.1 by making the neon green phone and messages icons less garish, and by giving us a setting to darken up many of the colors in apps, too.

To darken the colors for in-app controls, like buttons, do this:
- Tap Settings
- Tap General
- Choose Accessibility
- Tap Increase Contrast
- Tap the toggle for Darken Colors

Some apps won't look all that different, but others will give the boot to control and navigation color selections that I can only assume were chosen by a colorblind engineer. Apple's Calendar app, for example, gives you darker red navigation buttons instead of the orangey-red we were stuck with before.
Bonus tip: Is the white in iOS 7 too white for you? Not a problem. iOS 7.1's Increase Contrast settings also include a Reduce White Point option. That shifts the white color just a touch so it doesn't feel quite so harsh or bright. You're welcome.
