iOS 5: Removing the Stock Widget from Notification Center

The release of iOS 5 gave us Notification Center, which groups together alerts and other notifications in a single view that’s far more elegant that iOS 4’s notifications system. The downside is that the Stock widget shows in the list by default, but after a little digging it turns out it’s easy to disable.

The Stock widget takes up screen space that some people just don’t want to part with in Notification Center. If that’s you, here’s how to remove it:

Settings > NotificationsYou can remove Stocks from Notification Center from the Notifications Setting

  • On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 5, tap Settings
  • Tap Notifications
  • Scroll down to and tap Stock Widget
  • Change Notification Center to Off

Disable Stock WidgetYou can disable Notification Center for individual apps

Now the Stock Widget won’t appear in Notification Center. Not sure how to view Notification Center? Just swipe down from the top of your screen to see your recent alerts. Swipe up from the botton of your screen to hide Notification Center.

If there are other app notifications you’d like to see — or hide — you can enable or disable them from the Notifications setting, too.
