The release of iOS 5 gave us Notification Center, which groups together alerts and other notifications in a single view that’s far more elegant that iOS 4’s notifications system. The downside is that the Stock widget shows in the list by default, but after a little digging it turns out it’s easy to disable.
Notification Center with the Stocks widget (left) and without (right)
The Stock widget takes up screen space that some people just don’t want to part with in Notification Center. If that’s you, here’s how to remove it:
You can remove Stocks from Notification Center from the Notifications Setting
- On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 5, tap
Settings - Tap
Notifications - Scroll down to and tap
Stock Widget - Change Notification Center to
Off
You can disable Notification Center for individual apps
Now the Stock Widget won’t appear in Notification Center. Not sure how to view Notification Center? Just swipe down from the top of your screen to see your recent alerts. Swipe up from the botton of your screen to hide Notification Center.
If there are other app notifications you’d like to see — or hide — you can enable or disable them from the Notifications setting, too.

Great tip Jeff as that seems to be the first thing everyone I know wants to do with Notification Center. One thing I haven’t been able to do is to get my Twitter feed to appear in Notification Center. I have the twitter app notifications turned on and alert style set to banners. Or this a case where it won’t show the feed, just the messages sent directly to me?
Looked in Settings>Notifications and it ain’t there. iPad v1, iOS 5
Furbies: I’m not finding it either on my iPad v1, iOS 5. But I also don’t see the stock ticker in my notifications dropdown list in the first place.
Same here. iPad 1 w/ iOS 5 no stock or weather widgets in notification center. iPhone 4 w/ iOS 5 does have them. wth
Excellent tip - that stock widget really annoyed me!
