iPad Jailbreak Hits the Web

The iPad joined the ranks of iPhone OS devices that have been hacked to allow unauthorized third-party apps over the weekend with the release of Spirit Jailbreak for iPad.

The hack enables the ability to install apps that aren’t available through Apple’s App Store through a process known as jailbreaking. The jailbreaking process also installs Cydia, so users will have access to a long list of apps that they can’t get through Apple’s official channels.

The Spirit jailbreak hack is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and supports iPhone OS 3.1.2, 3.1.3 and 3.2.

Since jailbreaking isn’t supported by Apple, keep in mind that Apple won’t offer any help if you have trouble with your device after installing the Spirit hack. That said, Spirit is surprisingly simple to use even for novices.

Spirit is available as a free download for Mac and Windows users at the Spirit Web site.
