iPhone 4S Preorders Shipping

Reports are already coming in that the first iPhone 4S preorders are shipping even though Apple’s newest smartphone won’t officially be available until Friday, October 14. Apple and its cell service partners began accepting iPhone 4S preorders last Friday, October 7.

Vroom! iPhone 4S shipments begin! Some early iPhone 4S shipments are already on the way

In many cases, the tracking numbers for shipping iPhones are showing delivery dates as early as this Wednesday. Early buyers hoping, however, to get their hands on an iPhone 4S ahead of Friday’s official rollout will likely be disappointed. Apple has previously instructed shipping companies, in this case UPS, to hold deliveries until the actual launch date.

Apple said on Monday that it had sold over a million iPhone 4S units during the first 24 hours of presales. Shipping times for the new model have already slipped out to up to two weeks from Apple, and up to three weeks from its cell service partners.

Apple introduced the iPhone 4S during a special media event earlier this week. The new model uses the same body design as the iPhone 4, but includes a dual core A5 processor, a new antenna design, better battery life, built-in combination GSM and CDMA cell network support, an 8 megapixel camera, Siri voice control, and more.

The iPhone 4S is available in black or white and is priced at US$199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model, and $399 for the 64GB model.
