iPhone Moves Into RadioShack
November 6th, 2009 at 6:40 PM - News by Jeff Gamet
Electronics retailer RadioShack announced on Friday that it will be offering Apple's iPhone in several of its stores starting in November.
The company will be selling the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in a limited number of company-owned locations in New York City and the Dallas-Fort Worth areas. It will expand into all of its stores some time in 2010.
In addition to Apple's own stores and AT&T retail locations, the iPhone has found its way into WalMart and Best Buy stores. Adding RadioShack to the mix will give consumers even more places to buy an iPhone.
RadioShack hasn't announced an official launch date yet, and it hasn't said when it plans to offer the iPhone outside of its initial rollout areas.

eeing the iPhone in WalMart used to feel weird, but I adjusted.
I don’t shop too often, there isn’t one convenient to my place, but when I shop I rarely see anyone looking at the iPhones. Now that may because I don’t frequent the place, but that end cap looks lonely.
It’ll be an interesting experiment, considering it usually takes the entire staff of any given Radio Shack at least an hour to complete the sale of a cell phone (while the few other customers get frustrated and walk out).
I honestly don’t know how RS manages to stay in business.
I used to shop “The Shack” frequently for all my electronic needs. “used to” being the operative. However, in recent years, I’ve experienced a drastic decline in technical savvy, which expertise I had come to trust prior, and it really makes me suspicious. Of all the electronic stores around, I had come to expect a high level of technical expertise from Radio Shack. Not so any more. I also had the experience, as another writer noted, of attempting to activate a cell phone on the Sprint Network at a Radio Shack about 2 years ago. That experience was a fiasco. I won’t make that mistake again. And given how much of a problem EVERYONE seems to have (ATT and Apple Store) activating the iphone (I have three current, have activated 4 total experience), I don’t think I’d trust either Walmart or Radio Shack. And don’t even get me started on those kids from Best Buy!!! There’s one thing that will kill the iPhone . . . poor customer service and follow up.
I hope it works out for Radio Shack if for no other reason than I hope Radio Shack can survive. I guess I’m just a sentimentalist at heart.
