Retailer iPod supplies are apparently running low, and Apple isn't replenishing inventories. The current iPod SKUs have been discontinued as well, according to Ars Technica, adding mor credibility to rumors that Apple is ramping up for a September iPod launch event.
Apple hasn't announced any upcoming media events, but the current batch of rumors are targeting the week of September 9 for new product rollouts. Many are expecting Apple to add cameras to all iPods including the iPod touch, increase storage capacities, and add a wider screen to the iPod nano.
The Mac and iPod maker typically hosts an iPod-related media event in September, and now that retailers are reporting iPod inventory constraints, the rumored media event is looking even more likely.

The current line of iPods is on its last legs, lending more evidence that an iPod refresh is just around the corner.
