Is That a Rave in Your Pocket? Propellerhead Resurrects ReBirth on iPhone

| Product News

Propellerhead Software announced Monday the release of ReBirth for iPhone. ReBirth is a software synthesizer that was originally released for Windows and Mac OS in 1997. It featured three hardware emulators, Roland TB-303 Bass synth and the Roland TR-808 and TR-909 drum machines, all of which figured in in 1990s dance music.

The release of ReBirth for iPhone is therefore…and we kindly ask you to wait for it…a rebirth of the software, and one that poignantly illustrates how far computers, and handheld devices in particular, have advanced in the last 13 years.

In addition to the above-mentioned hardware emulators, ReBirth also includes audio effects, pattern sequencers, and a scalable interface intended to make using the software on an iPhone easy.

ReBirth is priced at US$6.99 at the App Store and is available now.

one that poignantly illustrates how far computers, and handheld devices in particular, have advanced in the last 13 years.

So in ~20 years we’ve gone from several discrete synthesizer systems costing several thousand dollars (guesstimate) to a software package that runs on a PC that cost several hundred dollars (another guesstimate), to an app that runs on a phone that costs $7.

This is truly an amazing business we’re in.

Dude, nobody says ?rave? anymore.

::blink::

Dude, I’m typing slowly to increase my chances of being understood: While few use “rave” today, it was frequently used back in the 90s, when
software like this (and its hardware predecessors) were used to make the kind of music one might have heard at a rave. smile
