Apple added a new option to the iTunes Store on Wednesday that lets customers donate money to the Red Cross for hurricane Sandy assistance, just as the company has done for other natural disasters.

Hurricane Sandy devastated parts of the U.S. eastern coast this week, killed at least 74 people, and has left millions without power. Widespread flooding is still an issue in many areas, communication in still out or spotty for many people, and public transportation is limited, too.

The special hurricane Sandy donation page includes options for donations ranging from US$5 up to $200, and all of the money collected will go to the Red Cross -- Apple won't keep its 30 percent transaction cut.
