iTunes 9: Syncing Friendly Faces

Syncing photos to your iPhone or iPod isn't something new, but being able to take advantage of the organizational features in iPhoto 09 is -- assuming you also have iTunes 9. Thanks to iTunes 9's ability to recognize Faces categories in iPhoto 09, you can load up your iPod with pictures of that special someone without having to build a custom album.

Faces is a feature in iPhoto 09 that groups photos based on who is in them. Each person gets their own category, so it's easy to look through your library and see just the people you want.

To sync a Faces group to your iPhone or iPod, do this:

  • Connect your iPhone or iPod touch to your Mac.
  • Select your handheld in the Library column on the left side of the iTunes window.
  • Click the Photos tab.
  • Scroll down to the Faces list and check the names you want to sync.
  • Click Apply.

The photos for the names you selected will sync with your iPod or iPhone, and since Faces groups auto-update you'll end up with new photos in your pocket whenever you add more pictures of your friends to iPhoto.
