LaCie Doubles Speed of d2 Blu-ray External Drive

LaCie announced Monday a faster version of its LaCie d2 Blu-ray Drive that burngs Blu-ray disks at 8x speeds, twice as fast as the previous version of the drive. The company also upgraded the authoring and backup software that comes bundled with the drive to Toast Titanium 9 (the previous generation of Toast Titanium) for Mac OS X, and Easy Media Creator 10 for Windows users.

The d2 drive is an external Blu-ray drive that can both burn and read/play Blu-ray disks, and connects via USB 2.0 and FireWire. It offers the following speeds for reading and writing:
