Laptop Hunting Lauren Re-Emerges in HP Commercial on Hulu
August 13th, 2009 at 5:52 PM - News by Bryan Chaffin
Hey, she's back, and she's still not cool enough to be a Mac user: Lauren de Long has re-emerged from her brief notoriety as a Microsoft Laptop Hunter to appear in a new commercial from HP proclaiming her ongoing status as a proud HP user.
Ms. de Long's Laptop Hunter ad for Microsoft featured her on a quest to find laptop for under $1,000. She chose an HP Pavilion, after quietly proclaiming herself to be "not cool enough to be a Mac person."
The new HP-branded ad is currently appearing on Hulu, where HP and Microsoft are running a campaign as joint sponsors. Rather than looking for another new laptop, however, Ms. de Long instead proclaims her delight with her HP unit, which she said she used to finish her college degree, etc.
In the end, she closes with, "I'm still Lauren, and I'm still a PC," while lovingly clutching her HP laptop to her chest.

It’s on broadcast TV as well. Doesn’t matter where it plays, it’s still inane.
“I’m still Lauren, and I’m still an actress.”
“i’m still Lauren and now I have x-men abilites so I can levitate this laptop”
Man, Windows must really be THAT good….
“I’m still Lauren, and I’m still an actress.”
Exactly. These are parts she is getting paid to play. No bearing on reality.
<rant>In a related vein the I’m a PC ads still bug me, because she is NOT a PC. She is a person who uses a PC. The I’m a Mac/I’m a PC ads were structured so the two actors were playing personifications of the respective platforms, so the statements were correct. In the Microsoft ads the statements are demonstrably false. </rant>
heyHHey, good for her. At least she’s employed.
The first thing I noticed was that we never see “Lauren”‘s face in this commercial. Any chance that this is an impersonator and not “still Lauren”? Maybe her beloved PC wasn’t so great after all and they had to find someone else to continue the Saga.
I think they should have showed the replacement’s face and pretended that she was the same person just like they do on day-time television (read: soaps) when they change a character’s actor mid-story line.
You never see the face of the person in this series of ads. In the past, that’s been because they were celebrities, and their names in text were assumed to be enough—in other words, it’s part of the ad-technique.
In this case, Lauren is not a celebrity, save amongst a few geeks, so we see her face in the form of clips from her Laptop Hunter ad to remind folks of who she was.

Is it just me, but it appears that the position of Lauren’s hands couldn’t be holding her notebook in the air. Holding the notebook, as she is holding it, it would fall on the floor, wouldn’t it?
