Mac mini Supplies Strained Ahead of Refresh

TMO Talk (3)

Apple’s online store isn’t showing any shipping delays for the Mac mini, but the rumor mill is still reporting that Apple’s diminutive desktop Mac is getting harder to come by, and that’s because it’s about to get updated.

According to AppleInsider’s unnamed sources, the alleged update for the Mac mini will also include “some new I/O technology.”

Apparently resellers are running low or are completely out of Mac minis and haven’t been able to get new inventory from Apple. If true, that could mean Apple is planning on releasing new models because the company has a track record of clearing out old inventory ahead of new product launches.

Since Apple is tight-lipped about its product updates, there’s no official word from the company on whether or not new Mac mini models are on the way.

Hmmm, an announcement about it at the Developer’s Conference?

I would love to see a new Mac Mini model. Despite a RAM upgrade and Snow Leopard, the Mac Mini connected to my TV has trouble playing some high def videos and handling the load of animations in Plex (plexapp.com).

However, for paranoia’s sake, what if Apple is releasing a brand new Apple TV and doesn’t want consumers “confused” or paralyzed wondering if they should get a Mac Mini instead?

I can visualize Steve strolling around the stage saying “The new AppleHDTV has merged with the MacMini. You can use it as a Mac, and as a media server. Oh, and it is available in the Apple Retail Stores today.”
