Macworld Expo Gets New Name, Opens Registration

Macworld|iWorld 2012Macworld Expo has a new name this year: Macworld|iWorld. The long-running all-things-Apple conference and expo will still offer plenty of content for Mac users, although the name change is a clear sign that the event will have a strong iPhone, iPad and iPod touch presence, too.

The organizers are are describing Macworld|iWorld as an event that will “showcase innovations for all Apple-related platforms, software, and app development, serving as a true reflection of today’s evolving iOS marketplace.”

Along with a new name, the conference and expo has a few format changes in store for attendees, too. Conference sessions are now Tech Talks, and a new event called RapidFire will offer up two hours of non-stop five-minute presentations on a wide range of Apple-related topics from a long list of presenters.

Macworld|iWorld will also include art showings, music events, a live DJ competition, a new film event highlighting Apple technology in film and TV, and more.

Registration for Macworld|iWorld opened on Tuesday, and iFan passes that included access to the Music Experience, Film Event, Art Showings, Tech Talks, and the Exhibit Floor are priced starting at US$75. Expo-only passes cost $25.

Macworld|iWorld 2012 is scheduled to run from January 26 through January 28, 2012, at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco.
