MTV Launches Free MTV News App for iPhone

MTV NewsMTV Networks announced Tuesday the release of a free MTV News app for iPhone. The app delivers the former music video channel’s much-vaunted news arm’s pop culture, television, music, movies, celebrity and gaming news articles, as well as direct access to the network’s Buzzworthy, Newsroom, Movies, Hollywood Crush, Multiplayer, Remote Control and Splash Page blogs.

MTV also said the app woud deliver “behind the scenes” access to its award shows starting with the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Coverage will include streaming red carpet video interviews.

Other features:

  • Customizable: News content can be tailored to users’ interests based on the news category that interests them most (music, celebrity, shows, movies, gaming). Visually, users can choose from standard “List View,” or the all-photo “Grid View,” in which clickable photos lead to related news stories.
  • Photos: Users can select their favorite photos of celebrities, shows and events and create a moving slideshow to be saved for later viewing, or shared with friends.
  • Video feed: Access to live event video, as well as all video content from MTV News and Blogs.

The app is free, and is available from the App Store now. MTV said an iPad version would be released soon.
