New Rumor Two-tier Pricing for Apple TV

When the price of Apple TV dropped to US$69 and added "starting at" to the streaming content device's webpage, Apple clearly telegraphed a higher priced model would be coming. Now a rumor claims that second model will be priced between $149 and $199, and is going to be introduced during the company's September 9 media event.

According to insider sources speaking with 9to5 Mac, the higher priced Apple TV model will support Apple Music, the yet to be announced Apple TV App Store, plus Siri voice control, and will also include a redesigned remote control. The new Apple TV will be slightly larger than the current third generation model, too.

The third generation Apple TV will stick around at its current price, and will get Apple Music support. That doesn't come as any surprise considering Apple has already talked about Apple TV support, and wants to make sure its streaming music service is accessible to as many potential customers as possible.

Apple will be hosting a media event on September 9 where it's expected to introduce the next iPhone model along with the new Apple TV model. Like every other media event the company puts on, there's only a hint at what's going to be introduced, and this time it's a tag line saying, "Hey Siri, give us a hint."

Knowing everyone would start asking Siri for hints, Apple made sure there were plenty of clever responses ranging from comments about how we probably opened presents early to checking out rumor sites because that's what she does.

The new Apple TV model will ship in October, so you still have a few weeks to wait before you can say, "Hey Siri, play the new episode of Doctor Who."
