New iPhone Models Appear in Retail Systems Ahead of Apple Event

With Apple’s October 4 iPhone media event only a day away, listings for new models are appearing in some retailer’s inventory systems. Vodafone Germany and Radio Shack are both listing new iPhone models, and the latter even shows a Sprint-compatible model in its database.

Vodafone Germany shows 16GB, 32GB and 64GB iPhone 4S models in its inventory system in both black and white, according to iFun. The carrier is also showing an 8GB version of the iPhone 4.

Radio Shack’s inventory system lists 16GB and 32GB iPhone 5 models, and in addition to showing AT&T and Verizon-compatible models, the company also lists Sprint-compatible iPhones, according to PC Magazine.

Rumors have been claiming Sprint would be joining the iPhone family soon, although the company hasn’t offered up any confirmation.

Information about the product listings in the Vodafone and Radio Shack databases comes courtesy of leaks and not official announcements from the companies. The listings also shouldn’t be taken as positive proof that Apple is actually announcing those products on Tuesday.

Retailers can add unannounced products to their databases as placeholders in anticipation of announcements, and it’s possible that both companies are adding the new items based on the same rumors that many news outlets have been covering.

Apple’s “Let’s talk iPhone” media event is set to start at 10AM pacific time on Tuesday, October 4. The company will likely unveil new iPhone models, as well as show off more iOS 5 and iCloud features.
