OmniWeb, OmniDazzle, OmniDiskSweeper, OmniObjectMeter Now Free

| Product News

The Omni Group's OmniWeb, OmniDazzle, OmniDiskSweeper and OmniObjectMeter are all a little more affordable as of Wednesday now that the company is offering the applications for free.

OmniWeb is the company's Web browser application, OmniDazzle is a cursor highlighter and visual screen effects tool, OmniDiskSweeper is a utility that helps save disk space by finding large and unneeded files, and OmniObjectMeter is a developer utility for memory optimization.

The company decided to offer the four applications for free because they aren't being updated as frequently as OmniOutliner, OmniGraffle, OmniFocus and OmniPlan.

Omni Group said on its blog that even though the apps are now free, they aren't being discontinued. "We aren't ruling out future updates at all, and we're keeping our options open," the blog entry stated. "We have lots of ideas for what we'd like to add to these products, and it's possible that at some point we'll have more resources to allocate to them."

OmniWeb, OmniDazzle, OmniDiskSweeper and OmniObjectMeter are available for download at the Omni Group Web site.

I don’t know about anybody else, but I find this news to be sad. I love my Omniweb, and to think that its development has dropped to nil is depressing. It still has functionality that no other browser has, at least not without extensions and hacking. It’s fallen behind Safari in its webkit version, however, and i was hoping to see it updated, but I guess it’s not going to happen now. Bummer.
