OWC MBA Enclosures

Other World Computing (OWC) announced Thursday morning the immediate availability of two external hard drive enclosures for 2010 and 2011 MacBook Air Solid State Drives. The enclosures allow owners of MacBook Airs who have upgraded their internal SSDs to find use in their now unused factory drives.

Prior to today’s announcement there were no consumer-grade options for utilizing the MacBook Air’s unique form factor SSD outside of the computer. This new option prevents the factory drive, once upgraded, from going to waste and provides a faster and more convenient method of transferring data between a factory drive and a new drive.

OWC offers two enclosure options for the MacBook Air SSD: the OWC Mercury On-The-Go USB 3.0/2.0 (US$69.99) and the OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini FireWire 800/400+USB2+eSATA ($109.99) enclosures. The company also offers a substantial discount on the enclosures when purchased in conjunction with any of their third-party Air SSDs.
