OWC announced Tuesday a new line of internal solid state drives (SSD) called Mercury Extreme Enterprise SSD. The drives are 2.5" form factors and are available in capacities up to 200GB. They offer sustained and consistent read and write times over 260MB/s with 0.1 ms latency, and OWC boasts that they are the fastest 2.5" drives on the market.
SSDs use RAM for storage, and thus have no moving parts. They typically offer higher performance than traditional disk-based drives, with greater reliability and endurance because of the lack of moving parts. The exchange as of this writing is that they are currently being offered in capacities that are smaller than the largest disk-based on the market.
The company is launching the line in three configurations:
- 50GB OWC Mercury Extreme Enterprise SSD with Five Year Warranty $229.99
- 100GB OWC Mercury Extreme Enterprise SSD with Five Year Warranty $399.99
- 200GB OWC Mercury Extreme Enterprise SSD with Five Year Warranty $779.99
OWC said its expects the drives to be ready for same-day shipment by January 29th. You can find more information at the company's site.
