Other World Computing (OWC) announced Tuesday the release of more than 50 do-it-yourself (DIY) upgrade kits for replacing your laptop’s internal hard drive with a new one, and then using the old drive as a portable, external hard drive. The kits contain a new drive, an external case for the old drive, and a five piece toolkit to help do the replacement.
In addition, OWC is offering online instructional videos to help both Mac users do the drive exchanges on their own.
The company is offering the kits with a variety of drive sizes and different versions of either its Mercury-On-The-Go external hard drive case or its OWC Express USB hard drive case. The On-The-Go cases are either USB 2.0, or combo drives with USB 2.0 and FireWire 400 or FireWire 800. The Express case is USB 2.0 only.
The kits start at US$67.99 for the Express kits in capacities of 250GB to 1TB, and $89.99 for capacities of 320GB to 1TB.
