PDFpen 5 Adds Redaction Tools, More

· by · Product News

Smile Software announced the immediate availability of PDFpen 5.0 on Thursday. The new version of the PDF editing application for Mac OS X added search and redact along with search and replace tools to more easily hide sensitive information in documents.

“Many high profile cases have come to light recently where sensitive text was exposed in PDFs unintentionally,” said Smile founder, Philip Goward. “Redaction in PDFpen removes the underlying text before putting a black rectangle in its place.”

Version 5 also added the ability to change color depth and resolution in images as well as adjust image contrast, along with the ability to straighten scanned documents. The OCR engine offers improved performance thanks to multi-core support, too.

PDFpenPro 5.0 was also released with suport for converting Web sites to PDF. The Pro version also supports creating fillable PDf forms and table of contents for documents.

PDFpen 5.0 is priced at US$59.95, and PDFpenPro 5.0 costs $99.95. Both are available for download at the Smile Software Web site.
