Version 5.3 added support for Unicode passwords when using AES 256-bit encryption, and added the ability to use AppleScript to set the encryption method when saving PDF documents. The update also improved performance when opening large documents, improved handling of PDF files that don’t conform to specifications, and fixed other bugs.

PDFpen 5.3 is priced at US$59.95 and is available at the Smile Software Web site. The update is free for version 5 users.

PDFpenPRO 5.3, which also offers the ability to convert Web sites to PDF and create fillable PDF forms, includes the same updates. It is priced at US$99.95.
