After upgrading to watchOS 2.2 which fixes several bugs we ran into an issue that effectively break Fantastical. Once Apple's latest and greatest Apple Watch update is installed, events stop appearing in Fantastical even though they show up in Apple's own Calendar app.
watchOS 2.2 breaks Fantastical on Apple Watch
The crew at Flexibits, the company behind Fantastical, says they're working on finding the root of the problem, but there is a workaround that seems to be fixing the problem for some users: uninstall and reinstall the iPhone and Apple Watch app.
Here's the run down:
- Go to the Watch app on your iPhone and tap My Watch
- Scroll through the app list and tap Fantastical
First uninstall Fantastical from your Apple Watch...
- Turn off Show App on Apple Watch
Once your watch is powered down, press and hold the long side button again to power up - Uninstall Fantastical from your iPhone, then press and hold the power button to turn it off
- Power up and reinstall Fantastical on your iPhone
- After the app finishes uninstalling turn on Show App on Apple Watch
...then reinstall it again.
If all goes well, Fantastical will show appointments on your Apple Watch again. If not, keep running through the uninstall/reinstall process until it does.
Our tests showed Fantastical would display Apple's built-in birthday and holiday calendars fine, but nothing else. We could even create new events in Fantastical on our test Apple Watch that appeared in the Calendars app, and in Calendars and Fantastical on our test iPhone 6s running iOS 9.3 and Mac running OS X 10.11.4.
Hopefully Apple and Flexibits will get to the bottom of the issue soon so Fantastical users don't have to deal with the slow uninstall/reinstall process to see their calendars.
