Qantas Adding iPads to Jetstar Flights

· by · News

Australia-based Qantas Airways announced on Monday that it will begin offering passengers on Jetstar flights iPads as an in flight entertainment option. The company plans to offer iPads on its domestic and long-haul Jetstar flights once its small scale test phase is completed, according to MarketWatch.

“We’re in the final stages of putting in place what would be a broader roll out across the network,” a Jetstar spokesman commented. “We’re in ongoing discussion with the manufacturer around a more integrated network proposition.”

The iPad is Apple’s multimedia tablet device with a 9.7-inch multitouch display. It runs iOS like the iPhone and iPod touch, includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, can play video and audio, supports most iPhone apps, and some models include built-in 3G wireless data support, too.

Qantas plans to use its iPad service to better compete with other airlines offering low cost flights in Australia and Asia. It hasn’t announced yet when the full scale rollout will launch.
