QuarkXPress 8.1 Ramps Up PDF Support

Quark announced the immediate availability of QuarkXPress 8.1 on Wednesday. The update for the professional page layout application added a long list of improvements for creating PDF documents as well as support for Mac OS X 10.6.

QuarkXPress 8.1 added support for transparency along with the ability to maintain layers in exported PDF documents. The update also added support for working with drop shadows in Item Styles and Item Find/Change, added a new spell checking palette, added Spanish hyphenation dictionaries, added the ability to import XML for automated document creation, and more.

QuarkXPress 8.1 is priced at US$799. The update is free for version 8 users, and upgrades from earlier versions cost $299.
