Quick Tip: Offline Dictation with iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus

Did you know you can do dictation on an iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus even when you're offline? Mac Geek Gab listener Kevin Barry did and he was kind enough to let us know. And TMO, being the kind folk we are, wanted to pass it on.

Firstly, we are talking about offline dictation, not offline access to Siri. You will likely need an Internet connection to access Siri for a long time. Secondly, this appears to be a feature of devices with Apple's A9 processor, which is currently found in iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Thirdly, this does not include iPad Pro, which uses Apple's A9X processor.

To do dictation offline, all you have to do is enable dictation as a whole on your iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which you can do in System Preferences -> General -> Keyboard. As shown in the screenshot below, "You can use dictation even when you aren't connected to the Internet." If you check on other devices, you won't find that note.

Once enabled, you can do dictation in most text entry fields by tapping the microphone and speaking. Here's an example sent to us by Kevin Barry:
