Rumor: Snow Leopard to Ship August 28

TMO Talk (4)

Following rumors that Apple's Mac OS X 10.6, or Snow Leopard, has reach Gold Master status, word has surfaced that the new Operating System could ship on August 28, ahead of Apple's promised September window.

So far, the sources claiming that Snow Leopard will ship in August are nothing more than ethereal wisps dubbed "reliable" and "trusted," but no one has come forward with any evidence to support the reports. Daring Fireball's John Gruber, however, is claiming he's heard the shipping date has been moved up to August 28.

Apple's Web site still lists Snow Leopard as "coming in September," and the company hasn't offered up any information that would indicate the release date has been pushed up. Like any other rumor, this one should be taken with a grain of salt.

Notice Gruber said “could be”. I thought Apple offered pre-order sales on Leopard more than 2 weeks before it was ready so I’d be a little surprised if it’s out in August.

If I got SL I would also need an intel Mac as a gift because my 2003 Powermac G5 can’t run it! smile

Not that he’s hinting or anything….

If true, (and that’s a big if) it would be great. I have 2 late08 Macbooks that would benefit from this.

I may wait a couple of weeks to see how it goes. In particular I’m curious about older Apps. My wife uses MS OfficeX (it’s hers, not mine, I’ve moved to OpenOffice a couple of years ago) and before I upgrade her system I want to know if OfficeX will run. Want to avoid ‘the look’. (You married people know ‘the look’.)

As much as I love the upgrade price for Snow Leopard, until I can afford a new machine it doesn’t mean much to me. Still going on with my DP 1.8 G5.
