That’s a bit of a weird title for an article, right? Let me explain. As you may be aware, you can right- or Control-click on any picture on a webpage in Safari and choose “Use Image as Desktop Picture” from the contextual menu.
If you do that, whatever you clicked on will be set as your wallpaper.

That’s it! That’s the tip! No, wait—I’m not done. Say that you keep that wallpaper for 87 years, and then you can’t find it on the Web anymore. Where the heck did Safari put it?! Well, it’s hidden, but you can find the file if you need to, no taking screenshots of your Desktop required. Seriously, don’t do that.
To get to it, you’ll need to go to your user’s Library folder. My favorite method to do that is to hold down Option when I’m looking at Finder’s “Go” menu…
…but TMO’s awesome John Martellaro suggested a bunch of other ways, too. Anyway, after you’ve found the strange and wonderful contents of that Library folder, open the “Safari” subfolder. The file you’re looking for should be called “Safari Desktop Picture.”
That’s it! Now you can do what you like with the image. Well, as long as no one else owns the rights to it, OK?
