Sony PlayStation Phone in the Works

Sony is apparently planning on bringing its own PlayStation and mobile phone combo system to market, and the device will run some form of Google’s Android OS, according to Engadget.

The PlayStation phone will sport a 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, a microSD card slot, and a screen that’s somewhere between 3.7- and 4.1-inches. It will also include a slide-out game control tray with a multi-touch trackpad.

Sony’s soon to be released game phone is likely an attempt by the company to keep its mobile gaming platform relevant in the face of Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch, as well as other portable gaming devices.

There’s no word on exactly when the PlayStation Phone will hit store shelves, but there are reports that it could potentially ship before the end of 2010.
