Sparrow Offers Fresh Take on Email Clients

| Product News

Sparrow is a new email client for Mac OS X that sports a minimalist interface that feels surprisingly similar to Twitter. The application is currently available as a public beta with only Gmail support, but could turn into a viable alternative to Apple’s own Mail.app.

Sparrow’s email interface

The Sparrow application supports Growl notifications, viewing message threads, working with multiple email accounts, and drag-and-drop attachments. Support for IMAP email accounts is on the way, too.

The public beta of Sparrow is available as a free download at the Sparrow Web site.

Has anyone got any thoughts about PostBox?

Has anyone got any thoughts about PostBox?

1. PostBox’s inability to sync with MobileMe’s Mail applette makes it a non-starter for me, although I’m still curious enough about its well-done other features to keep exploring it for a little while, yet.  BTW, M$ Entourage (which does sync with MobileMe’s Mail applette perfectly) is much more powerful than, and at least as easy to use as PostBox. (I’m only still using/syncing with Apple Mail because I haven’t yet finished using Apple Address Book to fix my badly screwed-up address list - when I’ve got my lists all repaired there, I’m going to replace Entourage’s lists with those lists, import into Entourage all the emails I’ve received in the meantime in Apple Mail since I stopped using Entourage several years ago, and then sync all my MobileMe, iCal & iPhone stuff only with Entourage.)  iCal truly sucks, and Apple Mail & Apple Address Book aren’t much better!

2. PostBox seems to download strange multiple fragments of certain (forwarded?) emails into the primary InBox from some of my secondary email accounts, and I haven’t yet figured out why or what to do about this.  These fragments don’t show up in my other email server Apps (Apple Mail or MobileMe’s Mail applette).  This obviously may not be caused by PostBox, but this discrepancy is puzzling.

MobileMe’s Mail applette

“MobileMe?s Mail applette”

What is this??

Well, what other term should I use to refer to my MobileMe webpage?s embedded “Mail” mini-app (or for that webpage?s other “Contacts”, “Calendar”, “Gallery” & “iDisk” mini-apps)?

MobileMe’s online email, perhaps. It’s not an applet. They are not apps at all, anymore than MacObserver.com is an app.
