Spotify Gets Social Networking Support

Spotify announced several new features for its music subscription service on Tuesday, including the ability to link to Facebook and share music with friends.

Spotify’s new social networking features lets subscribers see their friends in the Spotify browser, share playlists, subscribe to their friend’s playlists, and recommend songs to friends. Subscribers can also push information about what they’re listening to out to their Facebook pages.

The changes will likely make Spotify more compelling for potential subscribers, and also better positions the company to compete should Apple introduce social networking for iTunes or launch the rumored iTunes Store music subscription service. That competition will be limited, however, to Europe since Spotify’s subscription service isn’t available in the United States.
