Stepping Outside the Box: Jeff Goes to Ignite Denver

Ignite Denver... come see Jeff!Public speaking? I do that all the time. I'm at events talking about the latest tech news and all-things-Apple a few times every month, and if you add in podcasts it's like I never shut up. So I decided it was time to shake things up and step outside my comfort zone and try my hand at an Ignite presentation.

For those that don't know, Ignite is an event where several people get the chance to talk on whatever topic they like, but with some pretty strict rules. First, your presentation is exactly five minutes long. Second, you must include slides. 20 of them, and they advance automatically every 15 seconds -- no pauses, no do-overs.

Speakers are chosen by popular vote, and it turns out my topic made the cut, so I'm on the schedule. My topic is decidedly not tech-related, which was a restriction I placed on myself. It's about being a super smeller, and it's titled "Perfume is My Kryptonite: Why My Super Power is Killing Me."

No kidding. I really do have a hypersensitive sense of smell, and you can hear me talk about it if you happen to be in Denver on February 27. The evening of presentations starts at 7PM mountain time at the Oriental Theater in Denver (4335 W 44th Av). It's a cool venue, and there will be plenty of awesome presentations to see.

I'm really excited to have the opportunity to speak at an Ignite event because not everyone gets the chance, and because I get to burn new neural pathways by talking about something that's way outside my usual topic area. For you, it's a chance to see me present where the words "Mac," "Apple," and "iPad" won't pass my lips.

You can check out all of the topics and buy tickets to the event at the Ignite Denver website.
