Summer iPad 2 Shipments Could Hit 14M

· by · News

Apple has apparently ordered between 12 million and 14 million iPad 2 units for the third quarter of 2011 in expectation of continued high demand. Word of Apple’s inventory orders for the quarter come courtesy of industry insiders who claim the company has been stock piling components to avoid production shortages, according to DigiTimes.

iPad 2Demand for the iPad 2 remains high

Apple’s second quarter iPad production run is estimated to be between 7 million and 9 million units, although Apple is keeping the actual number a secret until its third fiscal quarter earnings report on July 19.

Currently, Apple’s biggest problem with iPad 2 sales seems to be building units as fast as they’re selling. In-store inventories are still limited, and online orders can still take a week or two for delivery.
