Swiftkey - Officially Coming to an iPhone Near You

LONDON - Swiftkey announced on Tuesday that it would bring its namesake keyboard replacement to iOS 8 when it's released later this year. A key feature in iOS 8 is the ability to support third party keyboard replacements like Swiftkey through Extensions, and not surprisingly, Swiftkey said it was rather pleased by the announcement.

In a statement, co-founders Jon Reynolds and Ben Medlock declared themselves "delighted," welcoming the fact that "Apple has decided to embrace the importance of opening its platform to third party keyboards."

They continued:

“For more than four years, SwiftKey has pioneered faster, easier typing on touchscreens, leading the industry with next-word prediction and smarter autocorrection. Our technology features on more than 200 million devices to date and we can’t wait to reach more.”

Pointing out that Swiftkey, which is based in London’s trendy Borough neighbourhood, “first brought a taste of our technology to iOS in January this year with the launch of the free note-taking app SwiftKey Note.” The company's founders confirmed that not only were they going to build an iOS8 keyboard, but that “we’ve already started.”

Indeed, a source at the company declared “we’re raring to go.”
