In a statement to the The Mac Observer,” on Wednesday, a Target representative said, “Target continually evaluates its product assortment to deliver the best quality and prices for our guests. Target is phasing out Amazon- and Kindle-branded products in the spring of 2012. We will continue to offer our guests a full assortment of ereaders and supporting accessories.”

Target has been carrying Apple products including the iPad “for quite some time,” according to Target. The reason for discontinuing Amazon Kindle products was not disclosed, but the absence of this competition in Target stores has to be seen as a plus for Apple.

Back in January, Target announced that it will be testing expanded displays of Apple products in 25 of its stores.

So long as Target doesn’t pull a Wal-Mart, and start extorting regular price cuts.

No surprise. Target knows they can do a lot better profit-wise focusing on Apple products.

Doesn’t Amazon sell Kindles at a loss? i wonder if this gives Target very little room to offer sales to move older merchandise given what Amazon probably charges for wholesale prices. Target must not sell enough of them to put up with that inflexibility. Or they caught Amazon selling the things for less than they let their retail partners sell it for which they routinely do with books, and Target got tired of it. Either way, bonus for iPad and Nook.
