Three Tips for Apple's Keynote App on iPad

Most people think about the iPad as a consumption device, but there's a lot you can create on the iPad. Making great presentations with Apple's Keynote app is one of them. I have three tips to help you get the most out of this amazing app.

Delete Keynotes From An iPad

I work with Keynote a lot. I save each presentation to the Cloud so each is saved to my iPad. When leaving home to make a presentation nowadays I just grab my iPad and off I go. Those Keynotes start to stack up after awhile, taking up space in the cloud, and I seldom use the same one twice, so it makes sense to delete old ones.

All of these instructions are for iOS 8.

Open Keynote on your iPad and click on Presentations. Tap the one you want to delete and hold your finger until your presentations start to wiggle. Tap that presentation a second time and you will see a blue box around it.

Tap the trash can in the upper left corner and you will see the option to delete it. Just tap Delete Presentation and it will be gone (never to return). To delete several at once click on each one till the blue box appears and them tap the trash can.

Once you delete it/them, the other presentations will stop wiggling and your screen will return to the normal presentations view.

Undo Actions in Keynote on your iPad

There’s no need to manually save your changes as you work in Keynote. Keynote automatically saves your work about every 30 seconds as you work. But you can always undo your recent actions, if you don’t want to save them (tap Undo in the top-left corner of the screen).

Add Transitions On An iPad

If you are familiar with Keynote on your Mac then you probably know that it is very easy to add transitions to your slides. They make for a nice, interesting presentation. If you create a Keynote on your Mac and save it to the cloud, all your transitions will transfer nicely to your Keynote on the iPad.

But, what if you don’t have a Mac and have to create your Keynote from scratch on your iPad, or you want to make changes when you are away from your Mac. You can still add or change transitions. Here is how.

Bonus Tip:  If you want to add an identical transition to multiple slides, a quick way to do it is create the transition on a single blank slide and then duplicate that slide as many times as necessary. This works on your Mac or your iPad.

Tap once on the slide you want to add the transition to. You get this option.
